"Cereal: A Story" is a screenplay that follows the life of LI, a young East-Asian man in his mid to late 20s, who lives a solitary and routine life, symbolized by his daily consumption of cereal. The story contrasts LI's mundane existence with his rich inner world and dreams, where he envisions himself as a superhero, SUPER KID, embodying qualities he feels he lacks in real life.

The narrative opens with a depiction of a happy couple enjoying a lavish breakfast, contrasting sharply with LI's simple and repetitive life. LI's apartment is messy but organized in a way only he understands. He experiences intense dreams, including one where he is choked, symbolizing his lack of control over his life.

LI idolizes a fictional character, SUPER KID, who he sees as a projection of his ideal self. This is emphasized by posters in his room and his fixation on a SUPER KID figure on his cereal box. Despite his isolation and longing for connection, LI receives no calls or messages, highlighting his loneliness.

The story progresses through LI's monotonous days, marked by his mechanical consumption of cereal and his mundane job at an office, where he is overworked and underappreciated. His supervisor, CHRIS, continually burdens him with more work, exploiting his diligence.

A significant turn occurs when LI receives a call from AMY, who falsely claims to be the sister of his supervisor, CHRIS. She fabricates a story about CHRIS's death and her financial troubles, playing on LI's sympathy and gullibility. LI, moved by her story, offers to help her financially, even though it strains his own resources.

The screenplay ends with LI finding some relief in being able to help AMY, unaware of her deceit. This final act highlights LI's inherent kindness but also his naivety and vulnerability in a world where he struggles to find connection and meaning.
